Summer Trip - Day 21 - Les Bossons

We got up and walked down to the Montenvers station to get the funicular train up the mountain to the Mer De Glace glacier.

At 1900m we got out and, took a gondola down a bit then walked down the 420 steps to the bit where you could go inside. There were signs that showed how much it has receded in recent years.

Inside were some big rooms and ice sculptures, and lots of drips and running water.

After going back up the steps and gondola we visited some of the glacier-related exhibitions. On looking further up the glacier, we could see lots of groups of people walking and climbing on it.

We then walked up the path to about 2200m with good views of the glacier and the Chamonix valley. We had lunch at the top, accompanied by some crows.

We completed a circular walk, then caught the train back down to Chamonix. We had a stroll round town and bought some supplies from the supermarket.

Back at the campervan we drove on to the same Grand Champ campsite (16.40 euros cash again) as before, set up and had showers. We had dinner, beefburgers, potatoes and vegetables. Later in the evening and overnight there was torrential rain and thunderstorms.
