Breakfast was toasts, bread, snack biscuits etc. After a lot of thought we decided that since
the refuges were far busier than we expected, it was going to be almost
impossible to complete the Tour, so we would cut our walk short and get the bus back through
the tunnel to Chamonix from Courmayeur.
We left the refuge at about
8.15. It was sunny so we got some good views up and down the valley.
Today's walk was down the Val Veny and a climb up to a ridge walk
with magnificent views of the Mont Blanc range.
As we approached
Courmayeur we made a long descent, eventually arriving at the tourist
information in the centre about 3pm.
We'd walked 16km, with only 470m of ascent but 1490m of descent.
We bought our bus tickets for the
next day and then got some beer and wine from a supermarket. We had a
bit of a walk up a hill in the hot sunshine to our hotel, the
Agritourismo Le Reve, 110 euros cash for bed and breakfast.
We had nice
long showers and a rest, then went out for dinner. After trying a couple
of places we ended up in a pizza restaurant Pizzarta which was great,
Scott had Calzone and Shirley had Quattro Stagione. We got a taxi back
to the hotel, which was a bit of a rip off at 20 euros.
