Summer Trip - Day 20 - TMB to Bertone, then to Chamonix

Breakfast was really good at the hotel, cheese and yoghurt made on the farm plus croissants etc. We then packed up and checked out.

The bus to Chamonix wasn't till 4pm, so first we decided to do a bit of the next day's TMB route, then back again. We walked up the hill from the hotel to a Hermitage.

Then down through the trees to the villages of Entreves and La Palud.

Now we were on the TMB route, which crossed a river then started to zig zag up the hill through the forest. As we got higher the views got better and better.

Eventually we reached the Rifugio Bertone where we stopped for a rest and to enjoy the spectacular views.

Scott took some close-up photos of some of the wild flowers.

By this time it was 1pm so to ensure we had time to catch the bus we had to head back in to Courmayeur. On the way down we met a party using mules to carry their stuff. The mules didn't look happy!

We'd walked 11km, with 965m of ascent and 1080m of descent.

Once there we bought an ice cream, must have a gelato in Italy!

We decided to buy some vegetables to cook for dinner, so went to a grocer shop. Most of the veg was at normal prices, but the mushrooms we bought were Porcini I think and cost 5 euros for 3 of them!

We then went to the bus station to wait for the bus. It took us back through the tunnel to Chamonix, where we then caught the free local bus to Les Houches. We got back to the campervan OK, and drove it to the large Grepon car park Aire in Chamonix, 14 euros for 24 hours.

We parked up then strolled into town to by some beer and wine and lunch for tomorrow. We made our dinner of pasta and vegetables and had a relaxing evening.
