There was some rain in the weather forecast so we decided not to go for a big walk today. We drove to the town of Prien am Chiernsee and bought tickets for a boat trip on the lake.
We disembarked at the island of Herreninsel and walked round its perimeter, then had a look at its castle, Schloss Herrenchiemsee.
We caught the next boat to the smaller island, Fraueninsel. Although smaller, it has more residents, and it seems all the houses have jetties with their own boats. We also walked right round the island.
It was clear the water level was still higher than normal because of the recent rains.
We had a beer while waiting for the boat to take us back to the start. We then drove further into the Alps, stopping at a stellplatz outside campsite Litzelau, which was 20 euros per night including electric, showers and all services.
There's a beer garden on site which we used, fortunately under cover as it poured with rain at that point.
For dinner that night we had blue cheese and walnut salad with new potatoes.
