European Trip - Day 6

We went into Munich city centre today. First we drove off the site and parked in a side street near Fasanerie station - we knew we couldn't drive into the Munich emissions zone.

We caught the train into Munich central station.

We went into the Tourist Office and got a map of the city with a walking tour. They also told us it was Munich's birthday today - 866 years old! This meant there were stalls and stages all over the city centre.

We had a good walk round, looking at all the fine buildings and fountains.

Like all tourists, we had to go to Marienplatz at 11am to watch the famous clock on the town hall do its display.

We also had to visit the famous beer garden, Hofbrauhouse, where we bought a litre of beer each in the traditional mass, or masskrug. Apparently it can't be called a stein as they must be made of stoneware.

We then went for a walk in the English Garden, a huge park to the north of the city centre.

Back in the city centre we bought currywurst for lunch at the market.

After a bit more walking we also had an ice cream.

We then tried to get the train back to where we had parked the campervan, only to find they had all been cancelled. Luckily we were able to use Google Maps to find a U-bahn and bus connection to take us to the same place using the same ticket. It was just starting to rain heavily when we got back.

We drove south east towards the Bavarian Alps, and stopped at a basic stellplatz on a farm near the village of Frasdorf, which cost 13 euros. Next to the site is a spring where the farmer sells water to the locals.

We had chicken salad with new potatoes for dinner, and went for a short walk up the road next to the site.
