We drove to Mittenwald, parked on a meter just outside the centre and went for a walk round. It's a nice picturesque Bavarian town.
We found a good pet shop there and bought some nice treats for Oscar.
We drove a few minutes further south and parked in the parking area for the Leutaschklamm gorge. We walked up hill to the start of the gorge path, it was very hot and steep. Part of the way up we crossed the border into Austria.
We then walked down the platforms above the spectacular gorge. They were metal grills which Oscar didn't like walking on so we had to carry him most of the way.
We walked back down through the forest and meadow.
On returning to the van we drove to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. We chose to stay in the stellplatz at the bottom of the cable car for Wank mountain. We booked in for 3 nights at 27 euros per night, which included toilets, showers and very good Wi-Fi.
We went for a walk into town along the Philosophers Way, which led to a church with the 12 stations of the cross on the path down.
We walked round a bit, and visited tourist information to find out about transport options up Zugspitze for tomorrow.
We stopped for a drink at a beer garden that had great views.
Later, after walking back to the van, we had chicken salad, kartoffelsalat and new potatoes for dinner.
