European Trip - Day 11

We drove to the Ramsau area and parked in a car park near Hintersee. We then started walking up towards the remains of the Blaueis glacier.

On the way up we passed a hut called Schärten Alm, we stopped for a sandwich just after it.

We carried on up to the final hut, Blaueishütte.

There was a good view down to Hintersee.

There we overheard a guide telling a party that the glacier has diminished so much that it is no longer officially recognised as one. However we decided to walk up to what remains of it anyway.

We could see some people walking down a steep snow slope, which looked very risky. And also some rock climbers.

We went back down by the same route we'd come up, for a total walk of 13.5km and 1250m of ascent.

We went for a short walk to Hintersee.

We returned to the site at Königsee. We realised that from the site we could see the Eagle's Nest house on top of its mountain, which was built for Adolf Hitler, though he didn't use it much as it was so difficult to get to.

Later for dinner we had beef-filled pasta with tomato and chilli sauce.
