Seville - Day 2

In the morning we decided we didn't need any breakfast, so packed up and left to head north. We'd chosen to stop for a walk from the village of Algodonales. However when we arrived we were in the middle of some heavy rain showers so we waited in the car for a bit while it cleared.

We walked into the main village square first, and had a look at the church.

We then followed a path round the hillside above the town, with good views back.

At the end of the walk it started raining again, so we sheltered by a fountain.

Eventually we had to head back to the car, and we got a bit soaked.

We drove on to Alcalá de Guadaíra, a town just outside Seville. We parked and walked down a park by the riverbank. There are a few old mills on the river.

Only now were we hungry, so we went to a deli and bought a couple of bocadillos de tortilla de patatas with alioli (rolls filled with Spanish potato omelette and garlic mayonnaise). They were very good, we could only finish one.

We walked further back up the river, there were more mills. The water was very muddy and fast flowing, probably due to the recent rains.

We then drove to our apartment for the next 7 days, which is in a suburb of Seville called Mairena del Aljarafe. We'd chosen it because it's much easier to park the car than in the city centre, and there is a Metro station 5 minutes walk away to get into Seville.

The host met us there and showed us round. Our apartment is on the ground floor, her family lives on the upper two floors. It seems to have everything we need, though it is a little dark as it doesn't have any big windows to the outside.

In the evening we walked to the local centre, only 5 minutes away. We went into a highly recommended tapas bar called Bodega San Rafael, where we had a couple of beers and some tapas. It was all very reasonably priced, we had potato salad, chorizo, some other sausage and cheese, with some crackers. We noticed that most people seemed to be snacking on roasted monkey nuts so we had some of those too.
