Cornwall - Day 7

We met the others for another walk at Coverack this morning. Numbers had dropped a bit since yesterday but we still had nearly 20 walkers.

After a short bit of the coast we headed inland this time, across very muddy woodland and fields.

The route took us through St Keverne, where we had a coffee stop at the church.

The next part of the walk was through some lovely woodland.

We reached the coast at Porthoustock where we found a sheltered bit by the beach for a lunch stop. There was a disused quarry just behind us.

We then walked back down the coast towards our starting point. At times this part was extremely muddy. We skirted round another quarry.

After returning to the cars a few of us went for a pint in the Paris Hotel.

After showering at the cottage we joined the rest for dinner at the Top House Inn in Lizard village. Scott had roast pork and Shirley had roast beef.

We returned home and went out for a final drink in the Prince of Wales pub in Newtown St Martin.

Cornwall - Day 6

Today were were meeting up with a whole lot of others from Bristol, who had taken over the Lizard Youth Hostel for a birthday weekend. The seven of us drove to the bottom of the peninsula in two cars and parked in the hostel car park.

After everyone had assembled, 28 of us set off up the east coast of the Lizard peninsula.

Very soon we passed under the Lizard lighthouse.

The weather was fine, though at times it was very muddy underfoot. We walked as far as the lifeboat station for a coffee stop.

We carried on round the spectacular coast, before heading inland across the moor.

Eventually we reached Kynance Cove on the west side of the peninsula, where we had our lunch stop.

After lunch we carried on down the coastal path back to our starting point. We passed the old lifeboat house on the way.

After the walk a few of us went for a pint in the Witch Ball pub in Lizard village. We then went home for showers, before returning in the evening to the youth hostel for a lovely communal dinner.

Cornwall - Day 5

The seven of us did a circular walk incorporating some of the coast today. First we drove to Porthallow and parked on the beach car park.

We started walking north up the coastal path, with good views back to Porthallow.

The path continued north, and was quite muddy at times.

After rounding Nare Point the path headed west towards Gillan Creek. After a while we stopped for some lunch on the beach.

We carried on up the creek towards Carne. Across the bay at St Anthony there was an annual cockle-collecting event going on.

After Carne we headed inland to complete the loop. This entailed following the right of way, sometimes across the middle of fields.

We had a heavy hail shower at one point, immediately followed by sunshine and a rainbow.

After the walk we went for a drink in the Three Tuns pub in nearby St Keverne.

Later we made dinner for the group - lentil and chilli bean pie with sweet potato topping, served with peas and carrots. This was followed by fresh fruit salad, meringue nests and cream.
