We drove back east and parked at the coast below Ben Hiant. First we walked down to a beach which had the remains of a Neolithic chambered cairn from 4000 BC, and a Bronze Age standing stone from 2000 BC.
We then walked along the coast for a bit, before starting uphill. Shortly we passed the abandoned settlement of Bourblaige.
Just after that we suddenly noticed a newborn lamb, we had inadvertently scared off its mother. We quickly moved away and fortunately it looked like the mother went back to it.
After that the going was quite steep, and the walk instructions were a little vague, so we really made our own way up to the ridge.
Once there it was still quite steep up to the top of Ben Hiant. However at the top the views were again magnificent, so we found a sheltered spot and stayed a while.
On the way down Shirley spotted a white tailed sea eagle.
On getting down to the campervan we drove back to the same Resipole campsite and booked in for one night. We sat out in the sun for a while, then had showers and dinner of sweet potato, spinach and chickpea curry.
