Spain - Day 8

We had only been able to book into the site for 2 nights but wanted to stay for another. Fortunately Peñíscola seems to have plenty of places you can park for free without a problem. So we simply drove out of the site to a large parking area behind it, and stayed there for the night.

We had a walk into the town itself today, first along a boardwalk through the wetlands behind the parking place, then into a landscaped area of the newer bit of town that had a pond.

At the other side of town we walked along the beach towards the castle rock.

The rock comprises the old town with a lot of narrow streets, with the castle on top.

Back in the newer bit of town we went for lunch in a covered outside area of a restaurant. We both had the menu del dia: Shirley had roast veg, beef cheeks and tiramisu, Scott had sardines, albondigas (meatballs) and custard flan, with a drink.

After lunch we took a walk to the top of a hill that the town extended on to. It was quite a hike, but unfortunately no great views from the top because of all the houses. The view from half way up was pretty good though.

Later we left Oscar in the van and went into town for a beer. We didn't need anything much for dinner as we'd had a big lunch, so we just had sandwiches and crisps.
