We drove from the site to the Lac Blanc ski resort, which is at a height of over 1100 metres. We parked in the car park and set off on our circular walk, taking in the three lakes in the area.
We first walked up above Lac Blanc to a plateau, with views down to the lake.
We carried up to the summit of Gazon du Faing at 1306 metres. The are lots of blueberries around, with signs saying you can only pick 3 litres per person!
We then had a steep climb down to Lac du Forlet (also known as Lac des Truites, Trout Lake).
Unfortunately Shirley had a mishap going down. There was a metal pole sticking out above a step that she didn't notice, and she tripped and fell forward, and her hand was gashed on a rock.
There was quite a lot of blood so we did out best to put a plaster on it and bind it in a kind of bandage.
We didn't really have a choice but to carry on, as we were about the furthest away from the start that we could be.
We had some lunch sitting by the lake, then carried on to the 3rd lake, Lac Noir.
Oscar thought he saw something interesting.
We finally got back to the lower side of Lac Blanc, then made our way back up to the car park. The walk had been 13 km, with 470 metres of ascent.
We decided we needed to get some advice about Shirley's injury. The nearest pharmacy was back in Orbey, so we drove there. The pharmacist spoke perfect English (having lived in the UK for 2 years) and advised us that it should be seen at hospital. The nearest A&E was at the Louis Pasteur hospital in Colmar, about 20 miles away.
We drove there and went into the Emergency department. The service there was very good, it seems our GHIC card gets us free treatment. We were in and out in 2 hours, with three stitches put in the cut, and an anti-tetanus jab provided.
We drove back to the camp site. It was getting very warm again but we just wanted something easy for dinner - burgers, mashed potato and beans.
