We went to the city of Colmar today. We left the aire in Thann and drove to a good parking place for campervans not far from the city centre.
We then had a walk round the city centre. It's quite a nice place, very busy with tourists.
We went to a wine tasting, and tried some Alsace wine - Pinot Gris and Muscat. They were both very nice, but I'm not sure we could tell them apart in a blind test.
We then walked to the area called Little Venice, which is some old streets with coloured houses along canals, with lots of flowers on display.
We bought some of the local food for lunch, it's known as Flammekueche in German and Tarte Flambée in French. Although Alsace has been French since the end of World War II, there is a large amount of German influence and dual languages.
It's a thin pizza-like base topped with cheese, bacon and onion.
After lunch we walked round a bit more, then went for a drink in a bar away from the main tourist area.
We drove on to our next site, Camping Municipal Lefébure which is just outside the town of Orbey. We booked in for 3 nights at 25 euros per night including EHU and showers. The cost is a bit of a relief after all the expensive Austrian sites we stayed at.
We walked into town which was down a steep path and had a little look around, then bought a couple of things at the supermarket.
Back up at the camp site we had showers then later had fish fingers, chips and peas for dinner.
