Germany - Day 8

We visited Lübeck today, a historic old town.

It's very famous for the Holstentor building. This was built in 1478 on soft marshland, and the towers are sagging towards each other.

We paid to go inside for a look around. There are model ships and a wooden model of the old town.

Lübeck has a nice setting, surrounded by rivers.

We then went for a walking tour from a map we got at the tourist office. It was nice seeing various old churches and other buildings.

Lübeck is famous for marzipan, and there are various shops selling it to the tourists.

We paid to go up the lift in St Peter's Church, where we got great views from the viewing platform.

For lunch we had savoury pastries from a bakery.

In the main cathedral is the wreckage of the bells which fell during an air raid in the second World War and have been left where they lay.

There are some nice courtyards where the poor people were given homes by the monasteries.

After spending the day in Lübeck we drove back to the apartment. We had fish fingers and chips for dinner!
