Germany - Day 4

We decided our day out today was going to be to use public transport to get to the F23 ferry in the east, which was included in our travel card. Unfortunately it was raining so we took our rain jackets and borrowed an umbrella from the hotel.

The first leg was the S-Bahn train to Ostkreuz station. We stopped there for breakfast, croissants, pan-au-chocolat and coffee.

The next leg of the journey had a bus-replacement service instead of the train, this took us as far as Köpenick. We walked from the station down to catch a tram.

We had a slight hiccup in that we caught the tram in the wrong direction, but fortunately someone directed us the right way.

The end of the tram line was at Rahnsdorf, where we had a short walk to the ferry terminal. Unfortunately we missed the (hourly) ferry by 2 minutes, so we passed the time by going to a nearby Netto to buy our lunch.

At 1pm we eventually caught the ferry. It was actually a fairly short trip, only one other stop, and we were the only people on it.

We got off at Spreewiesen. It was still raining so we sheltered under a tree in a churchyard to have our lunch.

We then walked back to the start of the ferry journey, it only took us about 45 minutes.

We used the tram and train to go back via a slightly different route. On the way we broke the journey at Kreuzberg for a stroll. We caught the bus back to the hotel.

In the evening we wanted to go to a traditional German restaurant, Dicke Wirtin. We walked there but it was full so we booked a table for the following evening.

We had dinner at an Italian restaurant near the hotel, Luardi's. The food was OK but the service wasn't great, we think they forgot about us. We had roast vegetable antipasti to start, then Shirley had lasagne and Scott had pasta with salmon and cheese.
