We walked through the Tiergarten park, having a coffee outdoors at the Café am Neuen See. We then went back to the Europa Centre on Kurfurstendamm and had brunch of savoury crepes (cheese/ham/tomato).
We then continued walking through Tiergarten, passing the Siegessäule (Victory Column) which we'd climbed up last year.
We walked past gardens, lakes and rivers, and saw some terrapins sunning themselves.
At Brandenburg Gate there were a whole load of stalls and seating set up for the World Cup (the Fan Mile) but it was pretty quiet, Germany having already been eliminated from the competition.
We walked up to Friedrichstraße station and decided to go on a 1-hour river cruise. This took us up and down the river seeing the main sights in the centre.
On leaving the boat we walked all the way down Friedrichstraße as far as Checkpoint Charlie. Near there we bought a bottle-opener so we could buy some beer to drink when out and about. Of course we had to try it straight away. We had a beer and walked round the Checkpoint Charlie exhibition.
We caught the underground back to the hotel.
In the evening we planned to go to Belushi's in the Mitte district to watch the England-Croatia World Cup semi final, but it was very crowded so we went down the street a bit to Volksbar, where we got a good seat in front of the big screen.
Unfortunately England lost of course.
We caught the underground back to the hotel, stopping to eat a doner kebab in the station.
