Andalucia - Day 9 - Marismas de Barbate

We first drove a couple of miles to the tiny village of Santa Lucia and walked the short water mill walk. Some of the waterways date back to Roman times.

We met a herd of goats on the way down.

Then drove to do the Marismas de Barbate walk, which is along the river to the coast at Barbate. It goes through tidal salt marshes.

We saw lots of birds - egrets, herons, storks, spoonbills and others. Also terrapins, mud crabs and some local people digging in the mud for clams we thought.

We got very muddy on the path, so once we got to Barbate we had a paddle in the sea to wash off.

We lay on the beach and snoozed for a bit.

We were going to get a bus back to the car but I think we missed it, so we got a taxi instead.

Today we swapped from one apartment to another within the same courtyard. This one was much nicer, it was on 3 floors and had a terrace on the roof with views over the village and the surrounding countryside..

For dinner we went out to the Califa restaurant, an African restaurant just around the corner. It was nice but overrated we thought. Everything was very exotic with sweet flavours.
