Today we walked the Cómpeta Eastern Circuit from the Cicerone walking book. First we went to the main square with its church, the Nuestra Señora de la Asunción.
Then through the pretty narrow streets to the east. There are many ceramic plaques on the walls of the buildings and squares.
As we left the village we started to go steeply uphill. Soon we left the inhabited area and walked through where a large forest fire had destroyed many trees a few years ago. We met a dung beetle on the way rolling its ball.
We went downhill past some farms, eventually reaching a river where we stopped for lunch.
Then the walk went uphill back towards the village, sometimes on forest tracks and sometimes on old donkey paths.
We met a herd of goats coming the opposite way.
As we reached the village we stopped for a welcome drink at a bar at the crossroads, then ate our last sandwich at a ceramic bench at a viewpoint overlooking Cómpeta.
Once back, we had showers, after the owner changed our gas cylinder! We went out for provisions, then for a short walk around town. For dinner we had chicken curry.
