We did a coastal walk to the Giant's Causeway today. We walked from the site, first along the road a bit.
We joined the coastal path about half a mile east of Dunseverick Castle, then started walking west along the clifftop path.
The views were pretty spectacular along the way. There are loads of parts that have the hexagonal crystalline structures that the Giant's Causeway has made famous.
Eventually we got to the point where you can see the Giant's Causeway itself.
There's a steep set of steps and path that take you down from cliff height. It makes sense to first go and see the bay just before the GC, called the Amphitheatre. On the way you pass below a big set of hexagonal rocks.
We had a good walk around the causeway, and had our lunch sitting on the rocks. It was of course very busy, most people having come down from the nearby visitors' centre.
We walked up past the visitors' centre and finished the cliff part of the coastal path. There was then a nice wide beach where we could let Oscar off the lead.
We arrived at Portballintrae where we thought we'd be able to buy an ice cream, but it turned out there wasn't much there other than holiday homes and a cute harbour.
Instead we walked about a mile inland to Bushmills, which had much more to see and do. We bought a big ice cream, had a walk by the river, bought some meat for a barbecue later, then had a pint in the beer garden of the Bush House pub.
We caught the bus back to the camp site.
Later we had a barbecue, with lamb skewers and chicken kebabs, with pepper, mushrooms and tomatoes.
