Germany - Day 17

We split the day in two today. First we went for a walk from the site up into the woods. There are paths all over the hillside, and we did a nice circular walk with a viewpoint. Oscar found a bees' nest and stuck his nose in and disturbed them He got stung a couple of times and Scott got at least 4 stings. Painful!

After lunch we went to look round Freiburg. First we walked to the nearest tram stop, and bought the 9 euro tickets that get you any public transport in Germany for the whole month.

We got the tram into the old town, and had a walk around.

There were little mini rivers in a lot of the streets that Oscar enjoyed paddling in.

We had a look at the Munster, a magnificent Gothic cathedral.

There's a hill just adjacent to the centre that you can climb up. There's an observation tower at the top with great views of the Munster and the rest of the old town.

We wandered back down and sat in a park to give Oscar his dinner. We had decided to eat out, so went to Martin's Brau, a brewery that also serves food. Shirley had a Baden beef, a steak with sauce, and Scott had Schweinshaxe, a crispy roast pork knuckle, served with dumplings, gravy and mustard.

It was okay, but not actually quite as good as it looked.

We caught the tram back to the camp site.
