Athens and Peloponnese - Day 1

Our flight to Athens was at 13:50, so we left the house by taxi at 12:15. We had a pint at Wetherspoons at the airport.

The flight left on time and was uneventful, and arrived in Athens 10 minutes early at 7:45pm. We bought a 3-day tourist transport ticket at the station airport, which gives an airport return journey an unlimited travel in the city for 22 euros each.

We caught the Metro to Monistirakis station, then walked to the apartment we'd booked with Airbnb. Being Saturday night the streets were very busy. One thing we noticed is that there is graffiti everywhere.

We were met at the apartment by the owner's son who showed us round, it had everything we needed including bread, coffee etc. so breakfast is sorted. The decor isn't particularly luxurious and the area is a bit down at heel. On the other hand it's very central and was very reasonably priced (about £34 per night).

The owner had provided a list of local recommended restaurants so we went out, and found Seyxelles (Seychelles) about 10 minutes walk away. It was full but we soon got a table.

We had stuffed aubergine, green salad, a Portobello mushroom with pork and cheese, all good, for a total of 36 euros.
