North East Scotland day 6

After leaving the campsite we drove into Arbroath, parked at the harbour and went for a cooked breakfast at the Town House Hotel.

Then we bought some Arbroath Smokies to take home.

We drove on to Carnoustie, where we had a walk on the beach.

We then headed for home, arriving about 4pm.

North East Scotland day 5

Before breakfast we went for a run along coast into town and back. Breakfast was outside in the sunshine. After showering we left the site about 11 and drove to Buchaness lighthouse, where we had a walk around.

We drove to Cruden Bay and had a walk to the spectacular beach with Amber.

Then we left Amber in the campervan and walked to Slains Castle, going inside and climbing up the tower.

We had lunch back at the campervan then drove to Inverbervie for an ice cream and also visited the lifeboat exhibition. We carried on to St Cyrus National Nature Reserve, where we had a walk along under cliffs then back along beach.

We decided to stay our last night in Arbroath, at the Red Lion campsite. We checked in, set up TV (for Eurovision Song Contest!) and had dinner of pasta and tuna.

North East Scotland day 4

It turned out we'd camped in quite a busy car park, lots of people arriving to walk dogs late at night and early morning. We left after breakfast at about 9.30, and drove along the coast via Rosehearty and Pitullie to Fraserburgh where we parked on the esplanade. We took Amber for a walk to the harbour and town, it was fairly chilly and windy.

We then drove on Rattray Head, which was a long way along a track, and parked beside some former lighthouse workers' houses. We left Amber and went for a walk through the sand dunes to the beach, where we saw the lighthouse and some seals in the sea. It was very windy.

We then drove on past Peterhead to the "Bullers of Buchan", a rocky blow-hole in the cliffs.

We went to Asda for supplies, then checked in at the Peterhead Lido camp site.

We walk into the harbour and town, and had a pint in the Cross Keys Wetherspoons. Back to the campervan for dinner, lamb spiced rice. Later we watched TV.

North East Scotland day 3

After showers and breakfast we packed up and left the site at about 10.30. We drove to Whitehills, the next village east along the cost, and had a walk around the harbour. There was a little light rain.

We then carried on east to Banff, where we had a walk on the beach. Then on to Gardenstown, where we stopped for lunch of oatcakes and cheese. We then left Amber in the campervan and walked along the coast to Crovie, a very picturesque fishing village, then back to the harbour.

On then to the RSPB reserve at Troup Head, where we saw lots of gannets, gullimots etc.

After this we drove to Pennan, the fishing village made famous by the film Local Hero. Unfortunately the Pennan Inn was shut.

We then made our way to New Aberdour Bay, where we wild camped for the night. Dinner was pasta and sauce, later we had a walk along the beach.

North East Scotland day 2

After showers and breakfast we went for a short walk round the bay with Amber.

Then we left Amber in the campervan and walked up to the main street to get a bus to Portknockie. The sun was coming out. At Portknockie we first walked down to the harbour.

We then started walking along the coast, and at the other side on the village we came to Bow Fiddle Rock.

We carried on along the coast, seeing spectacular cliffs and rocks, gorse bushes and three deer.

We came to Cullen Bay and the town of Cullen itself, where we stopped to have a coffee at the harbour.

There was an interesting pet cemetery at the east edge on the town.

We carried on along the coast, eventually coming to the deserted Sunnyside beach where we stopped for lunch.

A little bit further along was the ruined Findlater castle.

We then passed the village of Sandend before eventually arriving back at Portsoy.

We got Amber and walked up to Portsoy Ice Cream shop then into the park.

After this we went back to the campervan where we made dinner - chicken, potatoes and vegetables. Later we watched a film.
