Jasper to Clearwater - Wells Grey Provincial Park

We made own breakfast again this morning rather than go out.

Today we drove to our next stop, Clearwater, which is out of the Rockies and about 190 miles west. On the way we stopped at the Mount Robson visitor centre.

Clearwater is in British Columbia which is in a different timezone so clocks go back another hour. It's known as the gateway to Wells Grey Provincial Park.

Arrived at Clearwater early afternoon and picked up maps etc. from the park information centre. The park starts 10km north of Clearwater, with various waterfalls and hiking routes available near the road all the way to Clearwater Lake which is nearly 60km in.

We went to see Spahats Falls, Dawson Falls and Baileys Chute, where salmon were leaping, and had a walk round the West Lake Loop. We also saw Helmcken Falls, which is the fourth highest waterfall in Canada at 141m (463ft).

Later we checked in at our accommodation, the Canadian Bear B&B. This is a magnificent wooden lodge which the owners had built themselves.

Everything inside is immaculate, even the towels were presented as a kind of origami cat!

This is the private guest lounge:

We went out for dinner at the Blue Loon restaurant in Clearwater, and had lasagne and perogies (savoury dumplings).
