Banff to Jasper - the Icefields Parkway

We had Belgian Waffles for breakfast this morning. Weather was a bit cloudy but with good visibility.

The Icefields Parkway is a 230km (140 mile) road linking Lake Louise with Jasper, traversing the Rockies all the way. It's usually listed in all "10 best drives in the world" lists.

There are many stopping points on the way, viewpoints to lakes and glaciers, and short and long hiking routes.

First main stop was at Peyto Lake, which was a remarkably deep blue colour.

Other notable stops were for Mistaya Canyon, Bridal Veil Falls, Panther Falls, Sunwupta Falls and Athabasca Falls.

The highlight was a trip onto the Athabaska Glacier at the Columbia Icefield Centre. This was on specially built buses called Ice Explorers. We we able to walk on the glacier itself for 20 minutes.

Late in the day we arrived at Jasper and found our B&B, the Jasper All Seasons Accommodation.

We went for a short walk in the town but the weather had turned a bit rainy, had a burger at the Jasper Brewing Company pub.
