Most of the walking routes we'd picked up at the information centre were fairly low level, but today the weather conditions were perfect so we were in the mood for something a bit more adventurous. A popular walk ends at some wild flower meadows part of the way up Trophy Mountain, so we asked our hosts if they would recommend climbing to the top of the mountain itself (2,577m, 8,455ft).
They gave us the impression that it wasn't a typical tourist walk, but we decided we would go as far as we felt comfortable and conditions permitted.
In the event we got to the peak. The sky was completely cloudless all day and there was very little wind. When we reached the top we could see the Rockies over a hundred miles away, and could probably see a line of several hundred miles of snow-capped peaks. Absolutely spectacular.
On the way back down we had lunch at the wild campground at Lake Sheila, where we saw some beavers.
Later we had dinner at the Gateway Inn - Gypsy Schnitzel and spicy burger.
