We tried to do a circular walk to the north of the site today from a route plan loaned to us by the site owner. First we went to the nearby village of Aerdt, where we saw a stork nesting near the church.
The walk next went through some fields and along dykes. However dogs weren't allowed, presumably because of the livestock.
Instead we walked south to the Rhine, and did a circular walk that way. Germany was just over the other side of the river! It was pretty hot, Oscar had the first of many river dips.
On the way back we stopped in the village of Pannerden for a drink outside in the shade.
We went back to the site for showers and later had meatballs and sauce with pasta for dinner. We also had some free cherries from the many trees around the site.
