Germany - Day 11

We left the site in the morning, and stopped in Bernkastel-Kues for some shopping. Then we drove back downstream to a stellplatz in Zeltingen. It had electric hook-up, but no toilets or showers. We went for a walk across the river then up to a viewing tower on the top of the hill.

We then walked down through a vineyard and winery, and found at the bottom of the hill was a restaurant and craft brewery, where we stopped for a drink.

We planned to return later for dinner, but it started to rain and the wind got up, so we just stayed in. We had pasta with smoked salmon and pesto.

Germany - Day 10

We walked from the site across the river then did two-thirds of a circular walk. Instead of walking back we went down into Bernkastel-Kues on the other side of a loop in the Mosel. It was a very well-marked, good path.

At one point we came across a Volkswagen Beetle which seemed to be being consumed by the forest floor.

We had decided to catch a boat back to the start, so we bought our tickets first. It turned out the last boat was in 40 minutes so we didn't have much time to look round the town.

The boat took about two hours to get back to Traben-Trarbach.

We passed our stellplatz on the way.

Later for dinner we had ratatouille and couscous. Oscar was very tired!

Germany - Day 9

We left Morsdorf in the morning and drove back to the Mosel, but further west. We booked into a stellplatz in Traben-Trarbach for 2 nights. Our pitch was right on the river bank, and the site had toilets and showers.

We went for a circular walk, first upstream to a bridge, across the river to a village, then up to a higher level to return to Traben Trarbach.

We had a stroll round both of the twin villages, then had a drink in a shady garden with a fountain.

We went back to the van, and later dinner was sausages, red cabbage with apple, and new potatoes.

Germany - Day 8

We left Cochem and drove away from the Mosel river, to the village of Morsdorf. On the way we went to Aldi for some provisions.

At Morsdorf we parked on the stellplatz where we intended to stay overnight, then started walking towards the bridge we'd come to see.

This is the Geierlay Suspension Bridge, a footbridge 100m high and more than 300m long over a river gorge. It was quite busy. Surprisingly Oscar went over it without a problem.

We then carried on walking over various hills and valleys in the area. We spotted a pine martin running up a tree, but didn't manage to photograph it.

Back at the van we had fish fingers, chips, sweetcorn and green beans. Later we went for a walk round the (very quiet) village.

Germany - Day 7

We packed up and left the site this morning, and headed upstream on the Mosel. We first stopped at Winningen just along the road a bit. We parked up and had a walk round the town.

We drove on a bit to Kobern-Gondorf, and this time walked round the old town then climbed up to its castles.

Further upstream we stopped at a small island near Treis-Karden for a short walk.

We then carried on to our destination, Cochem. There you can park by the river in a stellplatz for free overnight.

We had a walk round the town, and up to the castle by the city walls. We followed this with a drink in a café in a quiet square.

Later for dinner we had tuna with pesto, spinach and new potatoes.
