England and Wales - Day 2

Barry arrived to meet us at Cow Green. The plan is to climb up Mickle Fell, the highest point of the historic county of Yorkshire (these days it's in County Durham).

The hill is on MoD land and we had to get permission in advance to go there.

We walked down the side of the reservoir through the nature walk. Saw a Dark Green Fritillary.

We crossed the river by stepping stones then up to the peak. It was a longer walk than we had expected, especially as we added a bit on to get to the trig point.

On the way back we crossed at a different point.

In all it was about 24km.

We had a pint at the nearby Langdon Beck pub, we drove to the camp site we were using at Barnard Castle, the Camping and Caravanning Club one.

Barry and Rachel were staying at a house in Barnard Castle, so came to the site by car to pick us up and go out for a meal in the town. We went to the Bengal Merchant Indian restaurant.

We also went for a couple of drinks, then Shirley and I caught a taxi back to the site.
