Rhodes - Day 6

The weather forecast from today onwards was sun all the way, so we decided to go on a boat trip. Unfortunately it wasn't possible to do the Halki one, so the only real option was to go to Simi from Rhodes town.
This entailed getting up very early and leaving before 7.30. We had honey and yoghurt for breakfast.

Since it was sunny we stopped to take a better picture of the acropolis at Lindos.

At Rhodes we couldn't immediately work out how to pay for parking, so we drove away from the port a bit and parked for free near the casino. We were still at the quay side at Mandraki harbour by 8.30 - most of the trips left at 9.

After looking about a bit and talking to one of the ticket vendors, we decided to go on the Dodecanese Ferry. This was bigger than the excursion boats and left from the commercial harbour at 9.30, so we bought cheese and spinach pies at a baker then got the free coach to the boat.

We found a seat outside on the boat, it wasn't very busy.

As we left the harbour there were good views back to Rhodes.

The boat stopped first at the Panormitis Monastery on Simi after about 90 minutes, where we had a walk round the bay then a look at the monastery after the crowds had dissipated.

The next leg of the journey was to Simi town itself, another 45 minutes away. the views of the buildings as you sail in are stunning.

We had a walk round the harbour, then up steep narrow steps. We didn't really know where we were heading but eventually discovered they went as far as a fortress (kastro) at the top.

At the top there were great views back down.

After walking back down we had a welcome refreshing Mythos at a harbourside tavern, then walked round the bay, before stopping for another beer at other end.

The boat left about 4, we had great views back again as we left.

Once we got back to Rhodes town we walked back to the car and drove back to the apartment by 7.30. We had a quick shower and went out to Taverna Nikolas again, where we had a mixed Greek plate to start, then Shirley had lamb with mint sauce, and Scott had lamb kleftico, both were very good.

As we walked home we stopped at the Pefki Islands Resort for a drink. Once we were sitting there an Abba tribute band came out as entertainment. It was very cheesy but a good laugh, we stayed to the end (Thank You For The Music of course).
