Bellagio and Varenna

We get up for breakfast about 8.30. It's a continental buffet with cereal, meat, cheese, croissants, tarts etc. It's not quite up to the standard of the previous week (e.g. no 7 different types of honey) but perfectly fine.

We get some tips on what to see and where to park the car from the lady owner of the hotel, who speaks very good English.

We drive down hill to Bellagio, and see lots of cyclists. Seems to be a hill climb race. It's sunny again.

We park at a school just outside Bellagio and walk east to Pescallo, a picturesque little fishing village.

We then walk to the northern point of the peninsula and back into Bellagio.

We buy a boat ticket to Varenna, and find there's one leaving in 2 minutes so we get on.

First we walk around town, then up to cemetery, a viewpoint called Baluardo, then on to a river and waterfal where we have lunch. We walk back into town via the castle.

Time for an ice cream.

The weather is now threatening rain, we can see lightning in the hills. We get the boat back about 3.45. We decide to eat in our room, so look for shops selling food, and buy a half chicken.

We get back to car as the rain really starts. We don't find any more shops selling food, though fortunately manage to buy some beer and wine. So we eat what we've got in the room while watching TV.
