France Trip - Day 17

We went to La Rochelle today. First we headed to the aire on the outskirts, and after a bit of navigation trouble we eventually found it and parked up. It's about £12.50 per night including electricity. It's quite a big aire and there are plenty of spaces.

From there it's a 2 mile walk into the centre of the city along the promenade.

The old town surrounds the harbours, and we walked round a bit looking at the walls, towers and old buildings.

We bought some frites and mayonnaise from a takeaway and had them sitting near the harbour.

We wandered round the harbour a bit and popped into the tourist information office for a map with a walking tour on it. Before setting off we had crepes from a café, one chocolate and one citrus.

The walking tour took us all round the old town, seeing many churches and other buildings, and the shopping streets covered in stone arches which are common here.

We had a beer sitting at a shady table in a tree-lined avenue, then went to a supermarket for some food to take back. We walked back along the promenade to the aire.

Later for dinner we had baguette with blue cheese.
