European Trip - Day 4

We visited Salzburg today. We weren't far from the border so we drove into Austria and stopped at a petrol station to buy a vignette. This is a windscreen sticker that allows you to travel on Austrian motorways. There are various prices and durations, we bought a 2 month one for 31 euros.

We went to a stellplatz to the north of the city. It's a big site and seems quite well run. It's 30 euros per night including electric hookup and showers, but with 3 euros per person per night tourist tax added on. At the time we thought this was quite expensive, but it was the cheapest place we stayed at in the whole of our Austrian trip.

We caught a bus into the city centre from just outside the site. Oscar had to use his muzzle for the first time, this is compulsory for dogs on public transport in Austria. He actually took to it quite well.

From the centre we walked uphill to the top of Kapuzinerberg, which originally had a fortress on it, and is now a monastery with a café.

From there we walked back down following the old fortress wall. As we got further down the views of the old part of the city on the other side of the river opened up.

At the bottom we had a walk round some of the shops then found a café where we had some sandwiches for lunch. We then went through the Mirabell Garden then across the river to the old town.

We had a walk round the old town, seeing the Mozart statue among other things, then had a drink in a beer garden.

We bought a couple of things in a supermarket then caught the bus back to the stellplatz.

It was still very hot, we sat outside for a bit then later had a barbecue of burgers, courgette and peppers.
