Cairngorms - Day 4

We left the site this morning, heading for Aviemore. We drove north round the top of the Cairngorms, and stopped in Tomintoul. After parking in the centre of the village we went for a walk in the countryside.

We saw an adder lying in the road.

Then a small bird in the trees. Think it's either a chiffchaff or a willow warbler.

Further on there was a viewpoint which was apparently liked by Queen Victoria as she rode past.

After walking up then down the River Avon valley we went back to the village and had lunch in the Richmond Hotel. We had breakfast rolls and some chips. Oscar was very well behaved.

We did another circular walk from the village centre, saw a roe deer and lots of lapwings, with some young ones in the fields.

There were good views up the River Avon.

Then back to the village. Tomintoul is very picturesque.

We drove on to our next site, which is Dalraddy, about 3 miles south of Aviemore. We were assigned a pitch but the electric hookup on it was faulty, so moved to a different one.

After setting up we had a walk round the site. It's huge, with large spacious areas with log cabins, a lot of static caravans, and plenty space for touring and camping.

We had fish fingers, fried potatoes and mushy peas for dinner.

Later we went for a walk in the woods just outside the site. There are some magnificent old Scots Pine trees there.
