Dunbar and Norfolk - Day 9

We drove to Brancaster on the coast and parked at the beach car park. Oscar had a run about in the foamy surf. It was a bit damp and chilly.

We walked on some flood defences round tidal salt marshes, there were a few birds there but not a huge number.

Once away from the coast we went up some lanes with high hedges and lots of wild flowers.

We walked round an old chalk pit, which had some interesting tree fungus.

During the walk Oscar ran off into a field, chasing a deer we think. We couldn't actually find him for some time, it turned out he'd gone into the next field. This was full of broad beans which were well above his head height and he was completely lost. Fortunately we heard him barking and managed to coax him out.

We sat outside the church at Brancaster village green for lunch.

We then walked back along the coastal path to the campervan.

By then the tide was far out and the beach was huge.

We had ratatouille for dinner later.

Dunbar and Norfolk - Day 8

We walked from the site towards Sandringham House, through the country park.

At the visitor centre we discovered that dogs aren't allowed in the actual gardens of Sandringham, so we went for a long circular walk in the country park and Dersingham Common.

We had an ice cream back at the visitor centre later.

The gate lodges at Sandringham were quite impressive.

That evening we had sweet potato, spinach and chick pea curry. England were playing football in the Euros so we watched that.

Dunbar and Norfolk - Day 7

We left Heckington in the morning and drove into Norfolk. We stopped at Hunstanton and went for a short walk along the promenade. We bought some donuts from a stall to have with our lunch.

We drove along to Old Hunstanton beach and, after lunch, went for a walk on the beach. The tide was out a long way.

The cliffs were in quite striking layers of different colours.

There's an old lighthouse and ruined house up on the cliffs.

We drove on to our camp site, Sandringham Camping and Caravanning Club Site.

It's a very large site. After setting up we went for a short walk in the woods surrounding it.

Later for dinner we had tuna, new potatoes, green beans and pesto.

Dunbar and Norfolk - Day 6

After breakfast we went with Jenny and Gordon to Whisby nature reserve for a walk.

We had a coffee at the café there.

Once we got back home the dogs had a good play in the garden.

Later we walked round to the windmill and had a drink in its beer garden.

We had a look at Heckington Station on the way home.

Later we had a Chinese from the local takeaway.

Dunbar and Norfolk - Day 5

We all drove to a dog exercising field near Oakham. Shirley's nieces Fi and Ali were there with their families, so four dogs and two children in all. The dogs had fun running about although the weather wasn't brilliant.

After the hour in the field we all went to Fi and Tom's house in Stamford for a barbecue. The weather eventually cleared up and it was quite warm and dry.

On leaving the barbecue we went with Jenny and Gordon to Rutland Water for a stroll. There was a wedding going on at the church there.

Back at the house we didn't need any dinner, so we had cheese and biscuits. We went for a short walk later.
