July trip day 5 - Whitley Bay

We left the site at 10.30 and went in to Alnwick for a cooked breakfast at Melvyns Cafe. It was very good although it just got busy when we arrived and service was a little slow.

We then drove to Blyth further down the coast, where we found there was a Quayside Fair. There was an interesting old lighthouse strangely inland up a back street. The weather was warm and sunny by then.

Then on to our next site, Old Hartley just outside Whitley Bay. This is a full site, with toilet block, showers etc. It's on a sloping site, with stunning views out to St Marys lighthouse.

We set up (finding a pretty good wifi signal) then went for a walk down to the nearest beach and pottered about in the rock pools. Amber appreciated the cool water.

We then cycled to the lighthouse, which is accessible over a causeway when the tide is out, and climbed to the top.

On the way back we had a pint at the Delaval Arms, just up the road from the site, then tea at the van and played some cards.

Later we walked to watch the tide cover the lighthouse causeway.
