We did a circular walk from the site today. First up to the waterfall at Cascade du Queureuilh.
We continued to climb past it, up to where we crossed the road at a mountain pass. From there we started heading for the first summit on our ridge walk. The path was hemmed in between 2 electric fences for a large part of it.
We soon reached the first summit, Puy de la Tache.
We then had a nice ridge walk, also summiting Puy de Barbier and Puy de l'Angle, which was the highest at 1738 metres.
The visibility was very variable, at times we were fully in cloud but at others it cleared for great views.
As we started our descent at the other end we could see the ski resort of Station de Mont Dore.
It took us a bit of time to find the right route, but eventually we went down past La Grande Cascade.
It was then quite a long way back on a path above Mont Dore, before a final descent to the camp site.
Later for dinner we had salmon with peas, sweetcorn and new potatoes.
