We left the beach and headed for Berneray harbour to use the showers there. It's supposed to be £1 for 7 minutes, which is a bit of a bargain. However it didn't work! Scott put two pound coins in with no effect, and tried giving the coin box a good bash to try to get it working.
There was a phone number to report faults, which was answered by Donald who apparently lived nearby and said he'd be down in a couple of minutes. When he arrived he didn't have a key for the coin box, so all he tried was giving it another good bash.
He said it had been installed by Pat who lived along the road, so called him out as well. As it turned out, Pat didn't have a key either. He gave the coin box a good bashing as well, of course, but still no positive effect.
We had a booking on the ferry so couldn't hang around too long, so we just had to have a wash in the toilet cubicles, fortunately there was lots of free hot water.
We then drove round to the Calmac ferry terminal, and caught the 10.25 ferry across to Leverburgh on Harris, which took about an hour.
Once on Harris we drove east to the village of Rodel, and first had a look round St Clement's church.
We then walked to the furthest south point on Harris, first stopping at a cairn on a hill to have our lunch.
The final part involved scrambling over some rocks so Shirley and Oscar waited while Scott did it.
At some point on the walk Oscar picked up a cut below his eye, probably from pushing through the undergrowth off the path. It initially looked quite bad but seemed to close up by itself and didn't give him any more bother.
Back at the van we drove to Harris Stores in Leverburgh. However it seems they use the Co-op for their supplies so had a lot of empty shelves too. We wanted bread but had to buy some wraps instead, so no big deal for us really.
We drove further north, and headed for Luskentyre Beach. We wanted to find a camping spot by the road, but all the ones we passed were occupied. However the car park at the beach itself has an area you can use for a £10 donation, although the toilets were being redecorated so were out of service. It's a great spot though.
We went for a long walk along the beach, which is rightly the most famous one on Harris.
In the evening we got told by Calmac that our Saturday return ferry sailing is disrupted due to technical issues. Instead of sailing from Tarbert on Harris to Uig on Skye, we are now on the ferry from Stornoway on Lewis to Ullapool on the mainland. And it gets in a about 1am.
Later for dinner we had tuna pasta.
