Western Isles - Day 1

We left the house in the campervan before 9am, and drove towards Oban. We stopped for a walk at Dunstaffnage Castle a few miles before our destination. It was very sunny and clear.

We arrived at Oban, parked in the queue for the ferry and went for a stroll.

We then got loaded onto the ferry. Oscar stayed in the van for the journey of just under 5 hours. On board we had a sandwich for lunch then bought some coffee and cake.

We saw some porpoises as we passed the Isle of Mull.

When we landed at Castlebay on Barra we headed straight for Vatersay, the island to the south which is connected by a causeway. We parked next to the Community Centre there, where they ask for £10 in an honesty box. Coin operated showers are available.

We took a look at the nearby beach, one of many beautiful white beaches on the islands.

We had ratatouille for dinner, and went out for a short walk in the twilight.
