We walked from the van today, anti-clockwise round the bottom of Vatersay. First onto the west beach, which had lots of boulders with interesting patterns on them.
From the headland we could look back and see how narrow Vatersay is in the middle part. There were lots of lapwings around today.
We took a detour to see a standing stone.
From the bottom of the island we could see a commotion in the sea that we are sure was multiple whales of some kind (minke whales are commonly seen around). It was too far away to photograph though.
We passed more beaches and an abandoned settlement.
Eventually we came round to the main settlement on the island and the beach nearest to our parking spot.
We went to the café in the Community Centre for some coffee and cake.
We then drove off into Castlebay on Barra to buy a stamp at the Post Office and post a letter.
We wanted to visit Seal Bay, but when we got to the parking place there were "no dogs" signs, don't know if they were because of the seals or sheep. So we carried on driving round the whole circumference of Barra, then parked at Tangasdale to go for a walk out to a ruined fort.
We drove to find our camping spot for the night, a wide layby just off the main road round the island.
Later we had ham omelette cooked in our new Ridgemonkey grill thing, with new potatoes and peas.
