Today we took the cable car from Funchal up to Monte.
Once there we saw the sledges and the operators who push them down the hill. Also Monte church.
From Monte we walked east, and down a path to the Levada dos Tornos. We walked along this as far as Camacha. It was rainy at times, but clear sometime. The views down to the coast were good.
Occasionally there were tunnels, some quite long.
At Camacha we sat at a viewpoint for our lunch, and had a look round the modern church.
We caught the bus back to Funchal, and had a beer in the O Barrilinho bar.
Later we went out to a local snack bar, Bela 5, for dinner. It was very quiet to start with, but later filled up with lots of police men and women. We had tomato, onion and poached egg soup to start with, followed by a mixed fish grill. This consisted of the local speciality espada (scabbard fish) with salmon, trout, langoustines and dorada. The scabbard fish was the least impressive of the lot.
We followed this with one portion of passion fruit cheesecake, which was very good.
