We parked at the Long Term car park at Edinburgh airport and caught our 8.45am Jet2 flight to Madeira. It landed slightly early at 12.45.
We picked up our hire car from Rodavante, it's a grey Citroen C3. We messaged our Airbnb host to say we were on the way, and drove to the apartment in Funchal, taking about half an hour. The host met us outside and showed us in.
It's a 2-bedroom apartment on the 1st floor, with a balcony at the back. It's pretty well equipped, seems to have everything we'll need.
The balcony has a sideways view down to the cruise ship port.
After unpacking we went for a stroll. The seafront is about 10 minutes away.
We had a drink at a snack bar near the harbour, then went for a walk into the centre. We dropped into the market but there wasn't much going on this late in the day.
We had another drink at a bar near the market, then went to a supermarket for provisions.
Back at the apartment we had a drink of Madeira wine on the balcony, the hosts had left us this with some local biscuits.
Later we had pizza for dinner.
