Gran Canaria - Day 2

We walked from home this morning, first down towards the lighthouse. There's a large dry riverbed through the town and some of the walk was on a path down the side of it.

Just before the coast there is a lake with some large birds on it, egrets, herons and others.

We reached the lighthouse, which is at the southernmost point of the whole island.

We then started walking east along the beach to Playa del Ingles, about 4 km away. There were a lot of people doing the same. The beach was quite busy, there are parts of it that tend to be for gays, and some bits for naturists as well.

Just inland are the famous Maspalomas Dunes, a protected nature reserve.

At Playa del Ingles we checked out a few of the restaurants for later, then walked along the promenade to the Maspalomas Dunes Interpretation Centre (which was closed).

We then walked on a path across the dunes, back to the lighthouse area in Maspalomas.

There we had a drink in one of the bars on the strip, and watched an acrobatic street entertainer doing backflips in front of all the bars and restaurants.

Our total distance walked was over 16 km, though it was all pretty flat.

We walked back to the bungalow and showered. Later we walked back to Playa del Ingles, and first had a drink in a German bar there.

We then went to the Hong Kong Chinese restaurant, which is an all-you-can-eat buffet for 11 euros per person. It was pretty good (and very filling).
