Dumfries and Galloway - Day 1

We left in the morning and drove to Kirkcudbright, parking in the town centre car park near the harbour. We walked round the peninsula known as St. Mary's Isle in lovely weather. At the furthest point we sat on the beach and had some lunch.

We walked back towards town then up through woods on Barhill. Then down to join the path up the side of the River Dee for a bit.

Back in Kirkcudbright we had a look at the bridge, which is currently closed to traffic causing a long detour.

We drove to the campsite we had booked, Anwoth, which is in the next town along, Gatehouse of Fleet. It's a very nice site just off the main street. Facilities are good, in particular the heated shower/toilet cubicles in the modern toilet block.

The friendly site manager had recommended the Masonic Arms pub, so we had a walk through town and went there for a pint in its beer garden.

Later back at the van we had tuna, spinach, pesto and new potatoes for dinner.
