Glenmore and Findhorn - Day 2

We drove up the Cairngorm ski area and parked in the car park. It's now chargeable at £3 per day.

We set off on our walk, planning to do one we'd done before up Ben Macdui, Britain's second highest mountain, and Cairn Gorm.

As the path went higher we got good views of the Lairig Ghru and across to Braeriach.

As we crossed the high plateau we noted that there was far less snow around than there had been last time, which was nearly a month later in the year.

We reached the summit of Ben Macdui and stopped for a sandwich sheltering from the wind behind a stone shelter.

We then headed across towards Cairn Gorm. For this part we did have to cross a couple of snow patches.

Then we had a final steep climb to the summit.

Then we had a long walk down to the car park. Knees and feet were suffering a bit by now. The Ptarmigan restaurant is closed at the moment because the funicular railway is still under repair.

We drove back to the camp site and rested for a while before having showers. Later for dinner we had beef chilli and rice that we'd brought with us.
