We walked from the site and caught two buses, first to Irvine then to Kilwinning. We first had a look at Kilwinning Abbey.
The path then went along the River Garnock and the River Irvine, till we got to Irvine itself. At the harbour was a maritime museum which has small-scale Kelpies.
We had our lunch at the harbourside, then went down towards the sea. There's a bridge that was built for an exhibition centre that opened around 2000 but closed in 2003 and the bridge isn't used any more.
Once we got to the sea there was a wide sandy beach that took us all six miles back to Troon, and it was great for Oscar to be let off the lead to run about.
The weather was reasonable, a bit windy but dry and with some sunshine. Once we got back to Troon we walked all the way round the harbour peninsula, then went for a drink in McKay's pub.
We got the bus back to the site, and later had a pork mince dish with fennel and pasta for dinner.
