We visited the Isle of Iona today. First we walked 1.5 miles from the campsite to the village of Fionnphort where the ferry terminal is. We caught the 10am ferry to Iona.
After landing we visited the ruined nunnery.
Further up is the famous Iona Abbey.
We then walked towards the north of the island, and climbed to the top if the highest hill, Dun I.
We then went to the far north where there is a white sandy beach.
Walking south, we had an ice cream at the ferry port. Then we walked across the middle of the island to the "Bay at the Back of the Ocean".
There on the machair grass we saw a corncrake.
We went up past a loch at on the moors towards the south, then to the pebbly Columba beach at the bottom end.
On the way back up we passed an old marble quarry.
We got the ferry back to Mull at about 4.30pm, then walked back to the site. A little later we went for a short walk onto the beach just at the campervan.
We had sweet and sour chicken with baby sweetcorn for dinner.
