We left the car in the village and first walked up a track to a secluded church.
This dog looked pretty harmless but barked fiercely when we went past. Chained up of course.
From there we started climbing a hill to a hidden gulley where there are the Minoan ruins of Korfi.
Some sheep were shading under a ledge.
Great view back down to the plateau.
We then went back down to the fertile plateau and walked into the fields for a look. The crops seemed to be mainly cereals and potatoes. The windmills are used to pump up water from underground, though are mainly replaced by petrol pumps these days.
Drove on to Lake Kournas, the only freshwater lake on Crete. It's very picturesque, nestled below the hills. We had a drink in a taverna and a stroll round the lake a bit.
Then we drove on to our hotel for the next four nights, Hotel Danaos in Chania. It's right on the seafront next to Nea Chora beach, and 15 minutes walk from the old town of Chania.
After showering we went out into Chania, first stopping for a drink overlooking the Venetian harbour, with the lighthouse at the entrance.
We had dinner at Strata restaurant - "Greek Selection" which was an amazing huge plate with beef, lamb, chicken, pork, potatoes, cheese pie, vegetables etc. - our best meal of the holiday I think.
