France - Day 8

We had an early start, and drove over the Lombardy pass into Italy again, parking where we intended to do another circular walk in the mountains to some lakes.

The first part of the walk was down the road past a lake, where there was a herd of cows.

However the path for this one wasn't as good as others we've been on, quite steep and narrow on scree, so we decided to backtrack and go elsewhere.

We drove to the top of the Lombardy Pass and parked there. It was very busy with cars, bikes and motorbikes.

We walked west along the ridge, first cutting back to go to the top of Tete de l'Adrech d'en-Barris above the pass.

After sitting to have our lunch, we walked along the ridge for a few miles and back. The ridge mainly follows the French/Italian border, and at times we could have one foot in each country.

Back near the pass we went into the WW2 barracks and defences there. Some of the fittings looked like they dated back to the war, but others were a bit more modern.

For dinner later we had the rest of the chicken curry we'd made earlier in the week.
