Our Jet2 flight from Edinburgh to Alicante was at 7am so we got up early. Shirley woke up with toothache so we knew we'd have to do something about it later, but off we went in our taxi to the airport. The flight was pretty much on time and we landed about 11.15am Spanish time.
We picked up our hire car, a grey Seat Ibiza, from Opencar.
Our first Airbnb apartment is in Murcia, about an hour south west of Alicante. We'd noticed that the town of Elche was on the way so we decided to stop there for lunch. We parked in an underground car park near the centre.
We had a little wander round the streets and chose a small tapas bar for lunch. We had salad, croquettes and a portion of tortilla.
After lunch we went for a walk round the palm trees for which the town is famous. It was nice and sunny.
We then carried on our drive to Murcia, stopping at a large Carrefour supermarket for provisions on the way. At the apartment we were met by the host, Diego. The apartment is very nice and appeared to have everything we need, though later we found it was a bit short of saucepans and trays for the oven. It has an underground car parking spot too.
Diego said his family owns a farm with oranges and lemons and had left us a whole load. The cupboards were also well-stocked with basics like spices, oil etc.
Diego showed us round the neighbourhood and gave us lots of useful local information. We also asked him about a dentist and he actually took us straight away to one just down the street. To cut a long story short, they saw Shirley in less than an hour and extracted the tooth!
The gum needed a few stitches so they told her to go back on Saturday.
Back in the apartment Shirley only felt like eating bread and butter, but Scott had some beefburgers.
