Stonehaven - Day 2

After a late start we went for a walk, first through the town to Dunnottar Woods. It was a clear day again, though cold and a little more windy than yesterday.

We came across the Shell House, a little house built by the landowner 200 years ago for their children.

There was a carved tree trunk, and a plunge bath in the stream.

We then headed for the coast and Dunnottar Castle.

Then back towards Stonehaven along the clifftops, to the war memorial on a prominent hill overlooking the harbour.

We stopped for lunch at a viewpoint halfway down the hill. From there we could see and hear that there was something going on at the harbour. It turned out that we were just in time to watch the Nippy Dip, where hundreds of brave (or foolish) people run into the sea to celebrate the New Year.

We walked down to the harbour to watch it. The lifeboat and crew were there to ensure safety.

After this we walked up past the caravan site and north round the golf course. On the way back into town we passed the drying green for the fishermen's nets.

Later in the campervan we had chicken curry for dinner.
